Woke up at 9am
So last night was interesting to say the least. Late last night I got up to use the toilet and while in the covered room I noticed that the water had gathered on top of the black plastic roof I had made. A huge bulge in the plastic had formed overhead. I would say there had to be at least 50 gallons of water up there by now and it was getting larger by the second. So I did what any normal person would do and stuck my hand up underneath to lift up on it. I was just trying to see how heavy this sucker was getting. And as my hand was right about to touch bottom portion of the upside down bubble the staples in the wood ripped away and the entire thing came pouring down on me like an old Nickelodeon show. Only instead of slime, it was about 50 plus gallons of rainwater.
Everything in my immediate radius was drenched. I had to spend the next hour getting everything cleared and dried up so I can make a path to repair the tear. Mind you, it was still raining and very late at night, so I could not use my staple gun as it would have woken up every dog within a five-mile radius. Things are eerily quiet around here in the middle of the night, and because of this, all sounds tend to carry a lot further than usual.
I grabbed my spring clamps and duct tape and did the best I could, given the circumstances. I ended up using my 6ft level and an 8ft two by four to
pitch the roof so collecting water would no longer be an issue. I had made the assumption when I built it that the roof was slightly higher on one side than the other, therefore, it would drain off properly. But, I guess I was terribly mistaken. I will not be making that mistake again.
As for today, well this was pretty much a wash for me. It is still raining and will
continue to rain until late tomorrow evening. I have half a mind to move the canopy from over the tent and place it over the table saw just so I can try to get something done today. But at the same time, I am also not opposed to relaxing today and just getting a fresh start tomorrow. As my wife keeps reminding me, “…every day is an adventure!”
