Day 42

Dec. 17, 2017
Woke up at 9am
Today I am taking an off day from work. I need to go and run some errands, and also do some laundry. So I loaded up the van and headed out. First stop was to the laundromat so I can finally have some clean clothes. I was basically down to my swimwear at this point.

While the clothes were being washed I took advantage of the downtime and caught up on some paperwork for the project. I still need to finish my projections for the final price, so we will know where we stand. Right now I have spent about 2/3 of the entire budget for this leg of the home build. I will need to start looking at ways to shave off some costs moving forward.

After the laundry was complete I grabbed a quick bite to eat. Well, I ordered Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup. Both of which are not quick at all, but absolutely worth it.Unfortunately, I could only manage a few bites and just saved the rest for lunch and dinner. Too many things on my mind and I needed to get to Home Depot to pick up some buckets and some ridge rolls to seal up the plywood on the roof. This is extremely important as they were short on ridge cap pieces and I will need something to keep the water out of the top of the home until they get some more to comes in. They did give me a window of about three weeks for the remaining ridge pieces. That was a little disheartening to hear. I really hope they can get them in sooner.

After leaving THD I headed over to Walmart to take back the old air mattress. Last night was such a peaceful rest knowing I wouldn’t be woken up by a sudden drop to the hard sub floor.  Now it was time for my fourth and final stop. I filled up 5 buckets and a few jugs of water from the natural spring they have near our home. The water comes from high up on the volcano and is collected into a giant reservoir underground, which is then pumped out to the public. I found out the water is actually clean, as it gets filtered through about 2 kilometers of rock and sediment before making its way to the aquifer. This allowed me to fill up my recycle bin water catchment tub I made earlier.

I will use this water for my newly installed toilet of course. Since there is no water source as of yet connected to the toilet, I have to fill the back tank by hand every time I use it. A small price to pay for not having to leave my site, nor dig a trench, every time I hear natures call.
