Woke up at 7am
Noland arrived at 8am this morning ready to go. He unloaded the excavator by himself and managed to get going straight away. I felt a little bad for the neighbors, as it was a holiday weekend and I know the kids don’t have school today. This means the sound of the hammer drill was the first thing our neighbors heard when they woke up this morning. Looks like no one around us is getting to have a lay in.

Much of today was just standing around and watching Noland work on the hole. The rock will be extremely hard from here on out, so I don’t see us making too much progress today.  The good news is that it did rain last night and the hole drained 90 % of the water overnight. So there is no way we will fill it up. The bad news is that it rained all night last night and I was unable to get any sleep. The rain was so loud and forceful on the tent, it sounded like a freight train. Here’s hoping for a late afternoon nap.

The other portion of my day mostly consisted of being on the phone with my wife going over budgetary concerns. Of course, these concerns are warranted with the new bundle of joy on the way. Most people called us crazy to start such a bold project while expecting our first child, but to them, I say, “Why the hell not?”.  What is life, if not without risks? The great Jim Carrey once said, “…you will only ever have two choices, love, or fear. Choose love, and don’t ever let fear turn you against your playful heart.” So the way I see it, we are choosing love and not letting fear of failure dictate our actions.

But to be quite honest, out of both of us, I think I have it the easiest. This miraculous woman is having to deal with me over here and worrying if I am okay all the time, while pregnant and starting at a brand new position in her company. All at the same time. If anything, this whole project should be dedicated to her. Because without her love and support, I would not have even made it through the first week of this trip. So she’s the real hero of the story, all I did was get to play castaway for a while and build a home.
