Woke up at 8:30am
Today was spent as a much-needed catch-up day. I finally finished typing up all the receipts. Then headed into town to do my laundry.
There is a good place nearby in Keaau called Suds and Duds. Got everything washed and dried, including sheets and towels.
Then headed to the gas station to put some air in the tires and add some coolant to the radiator. It seems this lemon-of-a-rental has been through the ringer and back. There is a leak in the radiator and therefore it overheats. My only concern is the lack of any coolant on the ground below the van. There seems to be a good amount of oil leaking as well, but no coolant. This may become a bit of an issue down the road.
After returning to the room I got on the phone with some excavators and
an engineer to draw up some plans for my septic system. This will ensure I can get everything done according to code and not have to worry about it later down the road. After meeting with the engineer and giving him the green light to make up the drawings,
I raced back to the land to meet up with Hank’s friend Johnny to go over the excavating process and costs. It seems he is really busy, and for him to do it soon it will cost a pretty good amount. I was very hesitant and needed some more quotes on the matter before making my decision. Hank was not too happy about this and continued to push me into using Johnny.
To be honest, the harder he fights for this the more I question his motive. Maybe he is trying to get me the best deal for my money, but in the end, I have a limited budget and time for my project, so I have to take my time to make decisions like these. Also, this is a decision between my wife and me, and I refuse to be bullied into making decisions I am not comfortable with by someone outside of my immediate family. I have been a production manager for several years now and I know how to put out the best quality product within the parameters of my monetary situation.
With that said, I think I will keep a bit more separation of business and pleasure between Hank and I. The engineer’s wife I talked to today put it best, ” when Islanders see mainlanders coming to build on the island, they’re like fresh blood to a mosquito”. It seems that Hank is starting to become a mosquito.
